Laura and Emily came with me to the last combined young mens and women's activity. So while all the youth where doing their team building activities Emmy got to kick a ball around a bit.

September Photos
Here are a few photos that I've been meaning to post for a while. These are all from September. Life has been pretty busy for us lately, so I haven't gotten out with the camera for a while.
The weather is changing with fall. The desert is beautiful after the rain. I may need to take the camera to work with me again.
Emmy likes to help her Mommy out with the laundry.
Back at the apple festival they had some horses and ponys that the 4h club was raising. Here Emmy gets to pet a pony. We are looking forward to when Emmy is a little older and can enjoy the festivals around here more fully.
Mmmmm... Honestly we fed her more than just the flyer for lunch.
My very first crepe. I had fun learning to cook and flip these. It took until my third batch to really get it nailed, savory, sweet, plain, ... Laura makes some amazing stuffings for our crepes. Now we just have to figure out what we are going to do with the store bought ones we have, it is so much better to get them fresh.

Reasons to have a child
This is an entry I've had on my mind for many weeks. It started when I came across one of the ubiquitous top ten lists, the one that caught me eye was the top 10 reasons not to have a child. It got me thinking a bit, and I found the list to be quite selfish.
So as a new parent, here in no particular order are some reasons to have a child (I realize that Emmy is a long way from being a teenager, at which point I may change my mind on the children thing, but I don't think so).
Having a child can bring a huge amount of love into your life. I cannot describe it properly, but holding your newborn child for the first time opens up a whole new part of your heart that you never really knew about.
In a good relationship, having a child seems to make your spouse more attractive. Seriously, watch your wife or your husband rocking your child to sleep (as long as it isn't 3 in the morning and the baby has been crying for hours) this pushes them up the beautiful scale a bit more.
Having a child can bring you closer to your spouse. This seems to be out of necessity, it is a lot of work to take care of a child, so it really helps to work as a team.
You don't know what cute is until you watch a little pair of hands reach up and grab the edge of the crib. They are such small hands, too. Then after that the head pops up and there is a pair of bright eyes and a beaming smile.
This one is a selfish reason, you can (with full authority) ignore the advice of all those people who tell everyone else how to raise a child, but have never had one (and don't want one).
You learn what you can do, and that it is a lot more than you thought possible. If you were busy before a baby, you are really busy after a baby. But having climbed an Everest, you know that you can stand up to anything.
A career is fun and essential. Without working and providing money you will starve. But a career will only take you so far. At the end of the day, and as you come to your retirement the career is gone, the family remains.
Children can lead to grand children. These are supposed to have all the perks, and many less problems.
This isn't a full list. But some of the reasons to have a child. Just don't have a baby out of a marriage, this is hard work, I could not imagine raising a child alone, and a baby deserves a full family..

Coeur D'Alene trip
A few weeks ago we took a weekend trip to Coeur D'Alene lake to celebrate our second wedding anniversary. For those of you who do not know where Coeur D'Alene is, it is located half an hour east of Spokane in northern Idaho.
We had a great time getting away from work and spending the time together as a family. It seems like two years have gone so quickly, but also it is hard to remember a time when we weren't married.
Another strange thing was to see trees again. We live in the desert portion of Washington, so while we see trees, we don't see trees.
Here is some of the fun that we had.
Here is the view from the deck where we stayed. There isn't that much between us and the lake, only a cliff, a road, a jogging trail, and then you hit water. Our landlords have a house next to the lake, that is where we stayed. So anyone up in the WA/ID area can ask about it.
Emmy and Laura having fun. As you can tell Emmy didn't particularly want to wear the sunglasses, but they seem to taste good.
I think she started out with socks on. But there is very little in the world she dislikes more than having socks on her feet.
Our bundle of joy and mischief.
We eventually made it into town to look around. They have a nice downtown area (do you hear that Tri-Cities, they are much smaller and have a much nicer downtown than anything here). But this is much more of a local resort town then the Tri-Cities. If you ever visit you need to visit Figpickles toy store, it is amazing.
The city park is located on the lake. This is where you go for lake tours and some swimming.
Hmm, I'm not sure where my sunglasses went to.

Pretty much the last thing we did before leaving was to take a aerial tour of the lake. It was pretty fun, and pushes Emmy up to 15 flights in her lifetime.
