Barn raising in Washington

Not too long ago I was thinking about how the world has changed. I remember hearing about communities that would come together to help people get started. You know, when everyone would come to build a neighbors barn so that they could get on their feet. That is a nice thing, to have people you can rely on around you.

After a little more thought I realized that we still do that. The only difference is that I don't know too many people with barns. We had a lot of help raising our 'barn' this last few months, packing, moving, cleaning, babysitting, and even unpacking. And we have helped some others with their 'barns'. It was a nice sight to show up to help and there are already people finishing the mudding, priming, painting, and cleaning.

I think we will try to help more 'barns' get built, that is the world I would like to be a part of. I may even learn out how mud a room.

Daddy and Emmy at the Zoo

Here is another fun one from vacation. Laura went to see one of her good friends while we were down in California. So Emmy and Dad had a daddy daughter day. So we headed off to the zoo.

I had fun taking her around. We went to the petting area and let her pet the sheep and goats. Saw the Rays in the salt water display. And we even got to stop at the gift store on our way out.

Often times she liked the plants and leaves along the way better than the animals.

Sometimes we would walk. Sometimes we would drive. I asked her what she wanted to see, and let her point at the map. That was enough to get us started through the zoo.

I think the Tiger information was more fun for her than the real tiger.

She did like the Warthogs.

And the Flamingos were lots of fun to. Lots of color to see nice and close.

They have a statue of a baby elephant who had been born at the zoo several years ago.

Emmy liked Nosey the Elephant.

Winter Fun

These ones are from December, but they are pretty cute.

The chalk eggs where a pretty good hit with all the little kid we have over. But unfortunately they just don't taste good at all. Poor Emmy.

This is really her second winter with snow. Just last year she was still trying to figure out how to focus at things farther away than 6 inches. Now she has moved on and can have fun with the snow. Homemade snow cones anyone?

Mommy, this is cold!

All done!

Snow is fun, look Mommy, I have it all over my mitten.

Ok, I've tried to eat this, now what?

Well, at least this year it didn't fly into Daddy.
