Fun With Emmy

We have lots of fun with Emmy. Here are some short videos we have taken recently

We decided that 'Emmy Bowling' was a better name than 'Emmy Balls', but it is fun. We have played it for our family home evening, Emmy scores pretty high. Well at least when she isn't trying to slide down the ramp (which can't support her).

This is from vacation at Grandma's house. I call it 'Destructo Baby', which just about says it all.

It was a beautiful (and hot) day yesterday. So in the evening when it had cooled down a bit we went to the park for ice cream and a walk by the river. Both activities proved fun for us.

The first time that Emmy got her very own ice cream cone.


The water was cold, but after a bit she wanted to stand in the river and splash too. She got wet. Here is Emmy warming up in one of Daddy's shirts.

Casa Hanks

One of the things we looked for in a house was a lot big enough to raise a family on. We need a little room for kids to run around (and not too much room because I do not want to mow it).

We live in an 'H' house which was built to house workers on the Manhattan project during WWII. 'H' is just the plan/style. So as much as we do not like housing developments and onerous covenants and associations, we do in fact live in tract housing. Just these houses have character. It is one of the things we love about the area. These old houses are amazing if they are kept up well.

We love our backyard. There are a few fun things here. First the strip of garden in the middle is kinda funny. We wanted to move the garden to a different spot, but when we went to plant the spot we wanted to use had too many ants, so we fell back to the spot the previous owners had used. We figure it is there because it gets full sun.

Another fun bit (although you may not see it it the picture) is that the previous owners left us seven or eight bird feeders.

Our Backyard! I had fun making this picture. The distortion is due to the picture covering more than 270° of yard. Please disregard the brown grass we haven't gotten the sprinklers working yet.

Welcome to Emmy's room.

While we were gone one of our friends painted Emily's room. So we thought we would show off her work. We love it, thank you Janay.

Coming into Emmy's room you enter a peaceful forest. It is adorned with the Sun, the Moon, some stars, trees, and lots of little flowers set on rolling hills.

Part of the fun of vacation is playing with family. We had a little bit of time to go to a park and play with cousins.

Summer Vacation

Some highlights from our brief trip to warmer climates.

Emmy & Laura are helping clean up family headstones before a reunion.

Emmy loved feeding treats to Mogli. Mogli loved being fed treats.

We had to keep an eye on Emily. She would start signing 'puppy' and then run down the hall and out the door to find Mogli. It just made her day to feed him.

Yeah! Look what I found! Digging through Grandma's new kitchen. Finding pots and pans is like striking it rich to a toddler.

Grandma has a fancy card shuffler. It makes noise when you push the button. Grandma had fun with Emmy.

We headed south on this trip for a family reunion. It was good. We got to meet a lot of family that we had not seen for years. Some of them hadn't been together for decades.

What can I say, I just liked this picture. Some of the kids had to sleep with furry blankets after this, but the dogs loved it.

This is a classic Emmy moment. Having fun with the dog.

One highlight of the trip was spending Father's day with Dad. Due to the machinations of my sister we were able to get most of the family together. It just took some extra computers, pointing cameras and each other, and a slightly over taxed internet connection. But it was good to get everyone together.

How we gathered from around the world for Father's Day.

We made it out to the Griffith Park Observatory one evening. That was a fun trip. I had wanted to go for years. However it was shut down for renovation until a few years ago and we hadn't had the chance before moving up to Washington. So we met up with some friends and paid the observatory a visit. Taking three children under 3 years old around made it a little more work than normal, and it made it hard to look at each exhibit, but it was nice. Emmy found lots of buttons to push, with some of them she could even see the results of pushing the button.
